What is photovoltaic technology?
It is the conversion of the sun’s rays to direct current electricity. Today it offers one of the cleanest renewable energy production solutions. It is reliable, distributed, clean with no emissions and virtually maintenance free. (picture)

How does PV technology benefit us?
By “distributing” energy production around our city and state, we reduce the need for large, centralized, power stations. Most of those power stations burn a fossil fuel (coal or natural gas)and contribute CO2 emissions and particulate matter. PV systems produce no emissions thus improving our air quality.

What rebates or incentives are available?
Utility rebates in Arizona are typically $3/watt from major utilities (varies by region of the state – check with your local utility or call Allwest Energy). A state tax credit of $1,000 and a federal tax credit of $2,000 is available for each solar electric system.

Can I sell excess electricity back to the utility?
Yes. When your system is producing more than your house is consuming, the excess is fed back to the grid and your utility company will credit you for it on your next bill. Not all utilities in Arizona have net metering yet, so check with your utility company or call Allwest Energy. If they have net metering then it is like “banking” your electricity with them during the day.

Is there any maintenance necessary?
Solar electric systems are robust and designed to function completely outdoors. Annual dusting of the panels is recommended, but many customers rely on the occasional rains.

What else can I do to reduce my energy bills?
Our homes today use electricity for nearly everything. Many homes are not well insulated and not built to be truly energy efficient. Allwest Energy will help you understand where you are consuming electricity, simple ways to save energy, and recommend other areas to consider in reducing your energy costs.

Then a well configured solar system can work best for you to hedge future energy cost inflation.
